<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrostatic coating apparatus capable of discharging a highly viscous coating solution in a drop-like state high in monodispersibility and having a simple constitution, and an electrostatic coating method using the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The electrostatic coating apparatus is equipped with a coating solution chamber for housing the coating solution, a tubular nozzle for discharging the coating solution housed in the coating solution chamber and a voltage applying means for applying positive or negative voltage to an object to be coated with the coating solution and discharging the coating solution to the object to be coated in a liquid drop state from the nozzle. The outer shape dimension of the leading end of the nozzle is 3.5 times or less the inner diameter of the nozzle or a diameter contracted part contracted in diameter toward the leading end of the nozzle is formed to the outer peripheral surface of the nozzle.
