A mobile communication terminal having an improved abbreviated dialing function and an abbreviated dialing method thereof are provided to enable a user of the terminal to mount an authentication card having an abbreviated dialing list on a new terminal when the user changes an existing terminal, thus the user does not have to set an abbreviated dialing function again. An authentication card(108) is detachable from a mobile communication terminal, and has an abbreviated dialing list which includes one or more records. A keypad(104) has a lot of key buttons. When a key button of the keypad(104) is inputted, a controller(100) confirms whether a record corresponding to the inputted key button exists in the abbreviated dialing list of the authentication card(108), and if so, the controller(100) controls so that an abbreviated dialing function is performed.
