PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ethylene-α-olefin-based copolymer by continuous multi-stage polymerization, by which the ethylene-α-olefin-based copolymer excellent in shape retaining ability, when extruded, is obtained. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ethylene-α-olefin-based copolymer, comprising continuously polymerizing ethylene with anα-olefin in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst in a solvent in a polymerization reaction device in which two polymerization tanks are connected to each other in series, is characterized in that the polymerization is performed in conditions in which the (τ1/τ2) ratio of the average retention time (τ1, unit: hr) of the first tank to the average retention time (τ2, unit: hr) of the second tank is 1.2 to 10, and the following expression value G is 0 to 0.5. G=(H1/M1)/(H2/M2), wherein H1 is a chain transfer agent supply rate (mol/hr) to the first tank; M1 is a total monomer supply rate (mol/hr) to the first tank; H2 is a chain transfer agent supply rate (mol/hr) to the second tank; M2 is a total monomer supply rate (mol/hr) to the second tank.
