In an apparatus for mechanically taking back empty drinks containers, having conveying means and scanning devices for the empty drinks containers, which means and devices are accommodated on a supporting framework (21), a construction which is customer-friendly and easy to service is achieved in a simple way by the fact that the supporting framework (21) has two superposed levels which are equipped with longitudinal guides (24), and that there can be pushed into the supporting framework (21) in the region of each level in each case at least one block-shaped push-in part (25 and 26a, 26b, respectively) which is accommodated on the longitudinal guides (24) of said level and is equipped with conveying means (6a, 6b and 14a, 14b, respectively) running past assigned scanning devices (33 and 34, 36 or 40, respectively), the conveying means and scanning members of the one level being constructed as bottle-conveying means (6a, 6b) and bottle-scanning members (33) and the conveying means and scanning members of the other level being constructed as crate-conveying means (14a, 14b) and crate-scanning members (34, 36, 40). <IMAGE>
