The combine harvester collects the grain in a trough (2) from which it is discharged by a screw conveyor (12). The inlet aperture (36) to the lower part of the trough, housing the conveyor, is partly obstructed by the blades (46) of a paddle wheel (48). The latter is driven by a chain drive from the screw conveyor shaft (14). When the screw conveyor is stationary the flow of grain around the conveyor is restricted by the paddle wheel blades. This reduces the starting torque on the conveyor drive. As soon as the conveyor begins to rotate the rotation of the paddle wheel allows more grain to flow to the conveyor. |
