PURPOSE:To correctly detect the remaining amount of ink, by arranging the detection of the remaining amount of the ink when a recording head is stopped in the same direction as the direction in which a bent-portion of an ink supplying tube is formed. CONSTITUTION:In the case, for example, where a bent-portion 16a of a tube 16 is formed at the right side of a head unit 17, the head unit 17 carries out recording in response to a recording command while it is moving from left to right. After the line is finished, the head unit 17 is stopped, and the remaining amount of the ink is detected. In this case, when a contacting switch in a detection device 15 which detects the remaining amount of the ink is closed, the remaining amount of the ink is judged to be over a predetermined amount. Then, the head unit 17 is moving from right to left while recording. The head unit 17 is stopped after completing recording of the one line. Thereafter, the above-described sequence of operations is repeated. When it is detected that the contacting switch in the detection device 15 is opened, a timer is started. Then, when the timer outputs a time out after a predetermined time set not to be influenced by the movement of the head unit 17, the remaining amount of the ink is detected again. |
