A method for alleviating pain and preventing the view in a dental mirror from being obstructed in dental treatment in which cooling is effected with the aid of a water spray. The method comprises adding to the water a composition which contains one or more surfactants and a foam retarding agent, in the form of a concentrated solution which is diluted with water to a ready-for-use concentration and used for cooling purposes with ultrasonic depuration treatment or with the preparation of dental cavities.
