PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a metal-chalcogen composite nanoparticle having an arbitrary atomic composition.

SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the metal-chalcogen composite nanoparticle includes a step of co-reducing ions or complexes of both positively charged chalcogen and metal dissolved in a mixed solution containing them, with the use of a reducing agent.
