PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constitution for safely inserting an expansion station into the system main body of a portable computer. SOLUTION: A guide means which slides an expansion station 100 and a system main body 200 against each other, first and second switching means the contacting states of which change in accordance with the sliding states of the stations 100 and main body 200 and output signals in accordance with the states, a control means 20 which outputs a control signal for changing the operation mode of a portable computer in accordance with signals outputted from the first and second switching means when the signals are inputted to first and second input terminals (DOCKING AND DOCKING-IN), and a switching element T1 which controls the power supply required for operating the computer the operation mode of which is changed by the output signal of the control means 20 corresponding to the operation mode, and a power supply device 30 which decides the power supply required for operating the computer in accordance with the operating state of the element T1 are provided so that the expansion station 100 can be inserted safely into the system main body 200 of the computer by changing the operation mode of the computer in accordance with the inserted state of the station 100.
