The burner has a flame pipe for stabilising the flame and which has at least one re-circulation opening (13). The combustion air flows into the flame pipe through an air nozzle. The flame pipe is divided into at least two coaxial sections (6,7). The arrangement of the two pipe sections is such that at least one opening (4) is formed that allows the combustion gases (9) to flow through, out of the upstream pipe section (6) into the downstream pipe-section (7), as a result of injector action. An overlap (12) may be formed between the two pipe sections.
