The device has a measuring head which is attached to the foetus (7) within the womb, having a housing (1) that encloses an electrical sensor and an optical sensor (3), for monitoring the foetal heartbeat and the foetal oxygen level, respectively. The housing is coupled to an inserter (5) and the optical sensor has an optical fibre bundle (32) with its end face brought into contact with the skin of the foetus.
