<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable polarization scrambler which can suppress polarization mode dispersion causing a transmission waveform deterioration and is easily manufactured and stable with respect to the polarization scrambler applied in order that the transmission characteristics of a optical communication system does not have a polarized wave dependence. <P>SOLUTION: A first polarization maintaining fiber and a second polarization maintaining fiber are provided wherein the constant components of the phase difference characteristic of the high-speed axis and low-speed axis with respect to the light frequency are identical and the inclinations to the frequency of the light of the above phase difference characteristics are different. The light polarization plane of linearly polarized wave light is set between the high-speed axis and the low-speed axis of the first polarization maintaining fiber and coupled. The high-speed axis of the first polarization maintaining fiber is made to coincide with the low-speed axis of the second polarization maintaining fiber. Then, the first polarization maintaining fiber and the second polarization maintaining fiber are coupled together. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
