The method involves permanently illuminating the auxiliary brake light (10) whilst driving and detecting the vehicle stationary state with a sensor (1) that produces a corresp. signal (2). When the stationary state is detected the signal activates a flasher generator (3) that causes the auxiliary light to flash to indicate that the vehicle has stopped. An Independent claim is also included for a circuit for driving an auxiliary brake light at the rear of a vehicle.
