PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable use of a telephone by a user by automatically breaking connection even if an STB 10 or the like is in data communication. SOLUTION: This communication apparatus 10 to which an external communication terminal 20 can be connected is equipped with a means (control part) 14 which connects and disconnects a modem 15 inside the communication apparatus 10 to circuit connection, means (hook circuits) 12, 13 which connect and disconnect the external communication terminal 20 to circuit connection, and an external originating call demand detecting part 11 which detects originating call demand of the external communication terminal 20. When the modem 15 detects originating call demand of the external communication terminal 20 in the course of communication, circuit connection of the modem 15 is cut off, and the external communication terminal 20 is connected with a circuit 17 via the hook circuit 12.
