PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating system for an automobile allowing an optional function to be easily added. SOLUTION: In this operating system for an automobile, a standard load 21 always connected to a control unit 10 carried on an automobile and an optional load 22 removaly connected thereto are operated by sharing a plurality of operation buttons B of an operating device 30 connected to the control unit 10. The control unit 10 is provided with a connecting state detecting means 11a for detecting the connecting state of the optional load 22, whereby on recognizing that the optional load 22 is connected to the control unit 10 according to the connecting state detected by the connecting state detecting means 11a, the operating device 30 enables the operation buttons B to be operated to the optional load 22.
