APPARATUS FOR PURIFYING VOLATILE CONTAMINANT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for purifying a volatile contaminant in which the contaminated water can be purified efficiently according to the concentration and decomposition characteristics of the volatile contaminant in the contaminated water by decreasing the load imposed on activated carbon to be used for adsorbing the volatile contaminant. SOLUTION: This apparatus has two independently operable units, namely a chemical treating unit constituted of a gas-liquid mixing apparatus for mixing gaseous ozone in the contaminated water and an ultraviolet irradiation apparatus for promoting the decomposition of the volatile contaminant contained in the ozone-mixed contaminated water, and a physical treating unit constituted of an aeration apparatus for bringing the ultraviolet-irradiated contaminated water into contact with an aerating gas and an activated carbon adsorption apparatus for removing the volatile contaminant in the aerated gas discharged from the aeration apparatus. The two units are separable, capable of performing purification processing, and operated simultaneously or independently according to the concentration and decomposition characteristics of the volatile contaminant in the contaminated water.
