An information distribution system comprises an information distribution apparatus for distributing contents and advertisements to a user terminal equipment via a network. The information distribution apparatus comprises a replacing section which replaces a portion of the contents by arbitrary image information forming a portion of an advertisement, based on a format with which the advertisements are to be received and is requested from the user terminal equipment, and a distributing section which distributes the contents in which said portion is replaced by the arbitrary image information to the user terminal equipment. Each user terminal equipment comprises a selecting section which selects a format of advertisements and a transmitting section which transmits the format selected by the selecting section to the information distribution apparatus.
