A character input device and a portable communication terminal including the device are provided to enable a user to input the English alphabet consecutively without waiting for a cursor moving or without inputting a right direction key even when consecutively inputting the alphabet allocated to the same input key, thereby improving character input speed as reducing a processing load of the device. A character input unit(110) consists of plural alphabet input keys for inputting the English alphabet. A character generation unit specifies the alphabet according to input patterns for the plural input keys, and combines the specified alphabet in order. The alphabet consists of plural consonants and 5 vowels, and the 5 vowels are disposed on a character input device(10) in symmetrical structure. |
