ILLUMINATOR USING DOT LIGHT EMITTING BODY FOR LIGHT SOURCE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power saving illuminator illuminating the surface of a body to be illuminated such as a liquid crystal display panel and the keyboard of a portable personal computer by using a luminous flux from a dot light emitting body.

SOLUTION: By disposing a straight or circular-arcuate or curved columnar light converging device 4 with excellent light transmissivity parallelly to or upright on a surface to be illuminated corresponding to the surface to be illuminated and arranging the dot light emitting bodies 3a and 3b in contact with or near the columnar light converging device 4, the luminous flux from the dot light emitting bodies 3a and 3b is converted into a planar shape and a transmission type or reflection type liquid crystal panel 2 or the body to be illuminated is illuminated.
