PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an obstacle detector capable of preventing the detection omission and erroneous detection of an obstacle and surely detecting the obstacle even if it is a small obstacle, to say nothing of a large one. SOLUTION: In the obstacle detector provided with a real camera 1 for photographing the periphery of a vehicle and an obstacle detection means (figure 3) for detecting the obstacle using a vehicle peripheral image input from the real camera 1, the obstacle detection means transforms the vehicle peripheral image from the real camera 1 to a bird's-eye view and detects the obstacle using the difference of two bird's-eye view transformed images at different time points.
