PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain almost equal light outputs at different wavelengths regardless of the level of light input to an optical fiber amplifier and the number of wavelengths during the course of wavelength multiplexing optical transmission, and to avoid the occurrence of surges and to judge component connection with a structure in which an optical functional component can be inserted into an intermediate section.
SOLUTION: Feedback control is performed for putting a variable attenuator in a light inputting section so that the light input to the optical fiber amplifier may be fixed. In addition, another control is performed to change the overall light output from the amplifier and light input to the amplifier based on the information on the number of wavelength obtained from a supervisory signal. The occurrence of light surges is avoided and, at the same time, a signal indicating an unconnected optical component is issued at the time of connecting an intermediate optical component by detecting the light to the optical component and the light from the component. When the component does not exist, excitation is suppressed.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
