PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the selectivity of a carbon dioxide reduction catalyst having a low product selectivity in water.SOLUTION: Provided is a reduction reaction electrode 10 for reducing carbon compound, including a metal layer 22 for reducing carbon compound, and a carbon layer 24 covering the catalyst metal layer 22 over the outermost surface, and in which a carbon compound is reduced through the use of electrical energy in a state where the carbon layer 24 is in direct contact with water-containing liquid.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
