PURPOSE: To maintaining the solidification temp. of polysaccharides which are extracellularly formed and generate uni-, bi- and/or tervalent metal ions and gels by microorganismic fermentation in the corpulence of a hydrolyzate and to improve the solidification temp. of a photographic layer by incorporating these polysaccharides into this photographic layer. CONSTITUTION: The polysaccharides to be used may be obtd. from hydrocarbon, such as glucose, maltose, sucrose or xylose and, in some cases, in the coexistence of yeast, yeast hydrolyzate or casein hydrolyzate. These polysaccharides form the gels with the uni-, bi- and/or tervalent metal ions, more particulaly alkaline and alkaline earth metal ions, such as Li<+> , Na<+> , K<+> , Mg<2+> , Ca<2+> , Sr<2+> , and Ba<2+> , and transition metal ions, such as B<3+> and Al<3+> , and Zn<2+> , Cu<2+> and Ni<2+> and the mechanical rigidity thereof is changeable within a wide range by the momentary compsns. of the corresponding coating soln. The solidification temp. of the coating soln. is 30 to 45 deg.C and the solidification time is short and the rigidity of the gel inducing the solidification is stable as well.
