The friction clutch actuator disengages the clutch by moving the plate against its load spring, storing the energy in a spring which forms part of the actuator and reduces the engagement speed of the clutch w.r.t. that of the actuator. The actuator spring (19) has a housing (30) and its spring (23) is pretensioned onto an endstop endwall (33,34). The travel (h) of the spring is limited by an additional endstop (e.g. piston rod) (28) stop screw (35). USE/ADVANTAGE - Motor vehicles, clutches. Damped engagement using storage spring and permitting clear disengagement.
