Process is for stabilising coke for charging the blast furnace. The system operates in conjunction with wet quenching. The lump coke is fed to a slowly-rotating adjustable-speed baffle-drum, then thrown from a driving drum on to the striker bars of the baffle drum and flung against an adjustable-angle baffle-plate. The coke, with cracks produced during wet quenching, splits up and, after screening, can be charged into the blast furnace. USE/ADVANTAGE - The coke is stabilised (i.e., it remains sized as cracked by the wet quenching) for charging the blast furnace so that, in the later grading and mixing, fragmentation is insignificant.
