Disclosed are polymers and copolymers of CH2=CHR alpha olefins where R is hydrogen or a 1-6 carbon atom alkyl radical, containing in the chain from 0.1 to 40 mole % of monomeric units <IMAGE> where X is selected from the group consisting of (CH2)rCH2CH2Y CH2)rCHCH2(CH2)r+2OCOR1 (CH2)r+2OR1(CH2)r+2CH(COOR1)2 (CH2)r+2OH(CH2)r+2CH2COOH <IMAGE> where r=0-10, Y is a halogen atom, R1 is a hydrocarbon radical with 1-18 carbon atoms.
