Antibacterial and antitumor agents designated LL-E33288.epsilon.-I and LL-E33288.epsilon.-Br, their production by strains of Micromonospora echinospora ssp. calichensis designated NRRL-15839, NRRL-15975 and NRRL-18149, and chemical processes for their production, are disclosed. Novel intermediates prepared in the chemical processes are disclosed. Processes for producing reductively aromatized derivatives of other antibiotics are also disclosed.
