PURPOSE: To obtain an alternator for an automobile in which the durability of the ball bearing can be enhanced by enhancing the drainage performance in a gap space formed between a V-ribbed pulley and a drive frame thereby blocking intrusion of water into the ball bearing inside a bearing seal. CONSTITUTION: A gap space 9 is constituted to satisfy the following relationshipsδ1<δ2,δ2>δ3,δ3>δ4, whereδ1 is a first gap space 71 formed between the belt guide 23 of a V-ribbed pulley 5 and the side plate 61 of a drive frame 51,δ2 is a second gap space 72 formed between the base body part 21 and a bearing box 62,δ3 is a third gap space 73 formed between the rising wall part 24 and a flange part 63, andδ4 is a fourth gap space formed between a boss part 25 and a bearing seal. The gap space 9 is bent or stepped between an opening 70 and the bearing seal.
