In a screen printing apparatus and a screen printing method, in which a printing paste on a screen is squeezed by a squeegee which is moved horizontally for printing and coating on a substrate, the squeegee is flexibly moved along the substrate, irrespective of inclination, waviness and warp of the substrate, to evenly perform printing under low, constant printing pressure to provide a highly accurate printing of good configuration. Thus an air cylinder (27), which is rotatable about the central position in a lenghtwise direction of squeegees (26a, 26b) and cancels a weight of the squeegees (26a, 26b), lifts the squeegees (26a, 26b), and then air cylinders (35, 36) disposed at symmetrical positions relative to the central position push down the squeegees (26a, 26b) to squeeze an upper surface of a screen (23).
