MOLD POWDER FOR STAINLESS STEEL

PURPOSE: A mold powder for austenitic stainless steel is provided which has superior surface quality for soundly producing the austenitic stainless steel in the continuous casting by increasing the combustion rate of carbon in the mold powder so that the carbon does not remain in mold slag, thereby preventing carburizing of a steel slab. CONSTITUTION: The mold powder for austenitic stainless steel having superior surface quality comprises 50 to 80 wt.% of a mixture of CaO and SiO2 in which a basicity (wt.%: CaO/SiO2) is 0.9¯1.2:1; and 1 to 3.5 wt.% of carbon so that a ratio of the radius of matrix particle and the radius of carbon particle is 225¯806:1. The mold powder for austenitic stainless steel not only obtains satisfactory quality results of the surface of the steel slab but also stably operates the continuous casting when continuous casting a steel slab since the mold powder secures appropriate content and size of carbon.
