PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time of transfer from spray combustion to vaporizing combustion by keeping a main combustion area of spray combustion in the vicinity of an evaporating cylinder and accelerating temperature rise of the evaporating cylinder with the heat of spray combustion. SOLUTION: A burner 10 is constituted with a combustion chamber 22 for burning liquid fuel such as kerosene or the like, an open evaporating cylinder 16 provided downward at substantially the center of the chamber 22, a cylindrical flame bolding member 17 provided around the cylinder 16, a scattering ring 18 provided at the lower part of the cylinder 16 with a very small gap C2 therebetween, an igniter 20 provided in the vicinity of the cylinder 16, and a blower 12 for supplying air to the inside of the cylinder 16. The flame holding member 17 having an open top shape, is located upright on a bottom wall 15A of a combustion stand 15 and is constituted such that the liquid fuel scattered from the gap C2 made between the cylinder 16 and the ring 18 therein is suppressed. In this way, spray combustion can be intensively performed in the vicinity of the cylinder 16 and thus temperature rise of the cylinder 16 can be accelerated.
