PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component determination device capable of simply determining the product kind of an electronic component mounted on a substrate. SOLUTION: This component determination device is equipped with a determination sensor 10 for detecting the shape of the electronic component 20 placed on a carrying stage 15 and a processing device 13 for determining the kind of the component 20 based on a detection result by the sensor 10. The sensor 10 has a first sensor 11 and a second sensor 12 for detecting whether the component 20 exists or not by utilizing the reflection of light by the component 20, and detects the shape of a prescribed marginal portion of the component 20. The processing device 13 selects a determination position for each product kind of component 20 based on stored contents in a memory 14 and moves the stage 15 by means of a drive part 18 so that the shape of the prescribed portion of the component 20 is detected at the selected position by the sensor 10. Also, the processing device 13 determines the kind of component 20 based on a selected detection pattern for determination and on a detection result by the sensor 10.
