PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a sharp rise in temperature in a non paper passing area at a low cost without hampering downsizing or speeding up of a device. SOLUTION: A fixing device is provided with planar members which is relatively pressed to a rotating rotary body and each of which has heat conducting layer of a specified thickness. An unfixed image is fixed to a recording sheet by applying heat and pressure to the unfixed toner image by making the recording sheet carrying the unfixed toner image pass through a space between the planar members and the rotating body. A heating means 114 is provided to apply the heat to the unfixed toner image T which is carried on the recording sheet P passing through the space between the planar members 120 and 131 and the rotary body 110. The heat conducting layer 1315 is composed of heat conduction anisotropic material with higher heat conductivity expressing ease of heat transmission in a direction of a plane on which the heat conducting layer 1315 is spread than the heat conductivity expressing the ease of heat transmission in the thickness direction.
