A valve assembly for a gas container, capable of appropriately releasing gas inside the gas container even if a valve in a release path has a failure etc. The valve assembly provided on the gas container has, as the path for communication between the inside of the gas container and the outside, a placement path for placing gas into the gas container and a release path for releasing the gas from the gas container. Further, the valve assembly has a placement side valve provided in the placement path and capable of closing the placement path, a release side valve provided in the release path and capable of closing the release path, a communication path for connection between the downstream side of the release side valve and the downstream side of the placement side valve, and a shut-off valve provided in the communication path. When the release side valve does not open due to a failure etc., the shut-off valve is opened to allow the gas to flow through the placement path, the communication path, and the release path, in that order.
