A fake money detector having a magnetic field shielding unit is provided to prevent damages to bills to be authenticated due to the contact with the money detector by protecting the bills from a magnetic field. A fake money detector having a magnetic field shielding unit includes a main body(10), an illuminator(20), a cover(30), and a magnetic field shielding unit(2). The main body contains a battery(12) therein. Plural IR(InfraRed) LEDs(22) and white LEDs(Light Emitting Diodes,24) are arranged in the illuminator, so that fluorescent patterns and imprinted images are recognized. A switch(26) is formed at a proper position around the main body. A magnet(32) is inserted into the cover on the main body. The magnetic field shielding unit is formed around the magnet.
