The method involves detecting the individual wear-related operating parameters of a machine (1) by a sensor (2) and evaluating the parameters if required. The evaluated or quantified parameters are stored with time-date information. A prognostic prospective characteristic of the data is computed with the help of the load data which is stored along with the failure messages, where the failure message leads to a direct alerting. An independent claim is also included for a device for automatic determination of the maintenance point of time in a machine and an equipment.
