This invention provides a compound of formula (IA) where X = O or S; Y is O or S; q = 1 or 0; and other substituents are defined herein. Such compoun ds can affect the opening of, or otherwise modulate, voltage-gated potassium channels. They are potentially useful for the treatment and prevention of d iseases and disorders which are affected by activation or modulation of pota ssium ion channels. One such condition is seizure disorders.
