<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas diffusion backing and a simple and an economic method for manufacturing MEAs (membrane-electrode assemblys) from the diffusion backing without a need for long time and complex sintering of a fluoropolymer incorporated into the diffusion backing in an undesired high temperature or without a need for an amorphous fluoropolymer solution with a high cost. <P>SOLUTION: This diffusion backing is a hydrophobic fibrous carbon gas diffusion backing (GDB) containing a porous conductive sheet material processed by a partial fluorinated polymer selected from an acrylic polymer, a mathacrylic polymer, an urethane polymer and a composite of those polymers, this method is a method for manufacturing the GDB, this MEA contains the GDB, this method for manufacturing MEAs is a method for manufacturing the MEAs and this fuel battery contains the MEAs. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
