PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine having clamp devices that are for clamping a material cloth, not interfere with a sewing machine head and are easy to insert the raw cloth into the devices for a user. SOLUTION: The sewing machine includes a raw-cloth frame 9 being shifted on a sewing machine table 2, the head H provided above the frame 9 and mounting a plurality of parts including a sewing needle 5 and a cloth presser 6 and the clamp devices 13a and 13b for clamping the raw cloth N to the frame 9. The devices 13a and 13b include a long press part 27, a receiving part 15 for receiving the press part 27, and a shift mechanism 40 for shifting the press part 27 in either of a first position for opening a space between the press part 27 and the receiving part 15 to allow the cloth N to be inserted into the space and a second position for bringing the press part 27 into contact with the part 15 to clamp the cloth N with the press part 27 and the receiving part 15. When the press part 27 is in the first position, the uppermost part of the press part 27 is in a position below the lowermost position of the head H when each part of the head H is placed in the upper dead point.
