PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress changes in a rubbing posture.SOLUTION: A rubbing member for forming an image is provided, which includes a substrate 4A having a carbon-containing region 5A containing carbon having a sp3 bond, on a side in contact with a contact target member 31, and which satisfies the following conditions (A), (a) or (B), (b). (A) The carbon-containing region 5A is in contact with the contact target member 31; and (a) the carbon-containing region 5A includes a concentration varying region where a concentration of carbon having a sp3 bond stepwisely or continuously increases in one direction and the concentration is increases toward the contact portion. (B) A carbon layer is formed by vapor deposition of carbon having a sp3 bond on a surface of the carbon-containing region 5A and the carbon layer is in contact with the contact target member 31; and (b) at least one of the carbon-containing region 5A and the carbon layer includes a concentration varying region where a concentration of carbon having a sp3 bond stepwisely or continuously increases in one direction and the concentration increases toward the contact portion.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
