A connector for transferring fluid and method therefor. The connector may have a first port, a second port, and a third port which may be coupled together at a main channel with a first valve element therein controlling fluid flow through the first port. The first valve element is supported by a valve element support positioned between the first port and the third port, and the second port joins the main channel to provide a fluid path around the first valve element and through the third port.

1. A connector for transferring fluid, the connector comprising:
a base having a first port, a cap having a second port, and an internal chamber defined between the base and the cap, the internal chamber fluidly coupled to the first and second ports; and a valve element having a first position and a second position within the internal chamber, the valve element comprising a head portion and a body portion, the head portion configured to seal the second port when the valve element is in the first position, the body portion having a cavity with a flange configured to be retained between the base and cap to seal the cavity and separate the internal chamber into an air chamber in fluid communication with an outside of the connector via a passage of the base, and a liquid chamber continuously coupled to the first port regardless of the position of the valve element.
