<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display equipped with a reflection type liquid crystal display element capable of displaying an image of high quality which has a high contrast and has inconspicuous coloration of white display. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes a polarizing plate 1, an elliptic polarizing plate 11 comprising a phase difference plate 2, and a phase difference plate 3, and a reflection mirror 31 composed of a reflecting mirror which reflects light in the visible light range. Found are optimum values of the twist angle of a liquid crystal layer 22, the angle between a transmission axis direction α1 of the polarizing plate 1 and a phase delay axis direction α2 of the phase difference plate 2, the angle between the phase delay axis direction α2 of the phase difference plate 2 and a phase delay axis direction α3 of the phase difference plate 3, and the product of the double refraction index Δn of a liquid crystal material used for the liquid crystal layer 22 and the thickness (d) of the liquid crystal layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
