The container is made from moulded synthetic material and has the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped with a square or rectangular horizontal cross-section. It includes two opposite side faces 3, 4 each having, at the same level, a recess 5, 6 which extends in a horizontal plane along the entire length of the side face. These recesses are designed for receiving the gripping forks of a fork-lift truck. At its upper part, the container has a bung 11 for draining and filling. The container is applicable for receiving liquids or alternatively products in powder or granule form, and is designed to be handled by conventional fork-lift trucks. <IMAGE>
