A negatively charged toner composition comprised of resin, colorants comprised of color pigments and/or dyes, optional surface additives, and an aluminum complex composite charge enhancing additive obtained from the reaction of an aqueous aluminum ion solution with a phenol, a hydroxybenzoic acid and a base at a temperature ranging from about 25 DEG C. to about 100 DEG C.
