PURPOSE:To obtain 2,2,4,6,6-pentamethylheptane-4-thiol in high purity and yield by using recovered triisobutylene having poor reactivity. CONSTITUTION:Triisobutylene containing a Lewis base as an impurity is treated with an acid and then reacted with hydrogen sulfide in the presence of a Lewis acid or reacted with hydrogen sulfide in the coexistence of a Lewis acid and a protonic acid to obtain 2,2,4,6,6-pentamethylheptane-4-thiol of the formula. It is preferable to use 0.01-0.5mol of Lewis acid and 0.005-0.5mol of protonic acid based on 1mol of triisobutylene. The reaction is carried out at 2-30atm, especially 3-15atm and -100 to +50 deg.C, especially -40 to +10 deg.C. The yield of the objective compound can be improved by contacting a reaction stopper with the reaction liquid after the reaction to stop the reaction. |
