<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To substantially improve the encoding efficiency of an wavelet by vertically distributing scanning wavelet coefficients in a horizontal band and horizontally distributing the scanning wavelet coefficients in a vertical band. SOLUTION: The wavelet coefficient is applied to input pictures in a unit 1 and the wavelet coefficient is divided into the horizontal band, the vertical band and a diagonal band in the unit 2. In the unit 3, a horizontal macroband is obtained by taking respective coefficients to the horizontal band. In the unit 4, a vertical macroband is obtained by taking the respective coefficients to the vertical band. In the unit 5, a diagonal macroband is obtained by taking the respective coefficients to the diagonal band. In the units 6-8, many linear arrays are respectively formed from the units 3-5 by the use of DPCM.adaptive scanning. In the unit 9, entropy encoding is applied so as to encode the respective linear arrays.</p> |
