Bipolar module of lead-acid storage battery e.g. for electric road vehicle

A bipolar module for lead/acid accumulators has a central metal plate surrounded by a plastic or rubber frame coated on one or both sides with a very thin layer of platinum or a metal from the palladium group, or an alloy thereof, like nickel/palladium. One or both sides of the plate also has a thin layer of silicon, silicon nitride, silicon carbide or silicon bronze. On the positive side, the plate furthermore has a thin lead dioxide layer, crystallised in a rutile-like structure. The layers are all electrochemically impermeable, with a thickness of ten to a hundred microns. The plate is made from iron, nickel, copper, bronze, high quality steel or an alloy of one of these.
