PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the new subject metal complex for production, etc., of optically active alcohols, useful as catalysts, etc., excellent in asymmetric yields in various organic synthetic reactions, especially hydrogen transfer type asymmetric reduction, etc., by bringing the complex to consist of a specific optically active ruthenium-diamine complex. SOLUTION: The ruthenium-diamine complex is expressed by formula I [*is an asymmetric carbon atom; R<1> and R<2> are each an alkyl, a (substituted) phenol, a cycloalkyl or R<1> together with R<2> makes a (substituted) alicyclic ring; R<3> is methanesulfonyl, trifluorosulfonyl, camphorsulfonyl, a (substituted) benzenesulfonyl, etc.; R<4> is H or an alkyl; X is an (alkyl-substituted) aromatic compound; (m) and (n) are simultaneously 0 or 1] and is useful as a catalyst, etc., excellent in asymmetric yields in various organic synthetic reactions, especially an asymmetric reduction of the hydrogen transfer type, etc. The complex is obtained by reacting an optically active diamine expressed by formula II with tetrachlorobis (η<6> -p-cymen)nylruthenium, etc. |
