The separating apparatus rows of lifting mechanisms (2) with narrow, continuous conveyor belt (1) in between. A measuring device (5) detects packets at the end of the conveyor. Two other devices (3,4) determine the orientation and contour of the packet at the end of delivery phase based on the processing algorithm of the image from a colour imaging device. A control device (6) is connected to the measuring devices in order to supply a packet via a transport device and conveyor so long as this packet or one lying in front of it reaches the end of the conveyor, to move the conveyor belt down or activate the lifting mechanisms so that the tappets are in their upper position, to set the conveyor for the packet removal, to move the tappets down in order to remove the packet without the hindrance of the movement of the rest of the packets, and to begin the next feeding cycle with or after the removal of the last packet.
