PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sharp observation image which has small noise and good S/N. SOLUTION: The confocal optical scanning probe device 1 is equipped with a probe 1 which has a scanner, a controller 2 which drives the scanner, an optical unit 3 which supplies light to the probe 1 and detects and converts an optical image from the probe 1 into an electric signal, a filter device 501 which passes only a specific frequency component of the signal from the optical unit 3, an imaging device 4 which images the electric signal from the filter device 501, a monitor 5 which displays the video from the imaging device 4, and an external clock generator 7 which generates a reference clock for a driving waveform driving the scanner.
